Man City Mathis Albert interest is back in the headlines, with BILD reporting that City are strongly keen on the 17-year-old Borussia Dortmund forward. BILD says no concrete offer has reached Dortmund, who are not looking to sell. This is a report of interest, not a bid or an agreed deal.
Man City Mathis Albert interest: what BILD reports
BILD, citing the US outlet Goal, says City have followed Albert’s development for months and wanted him last winter and again in the summer. It says Dortmund’s officials know about the steady interest even though no formal offer has been made. BILD adds that Liverpool and Arsenal are also watching the winger, though it believes City have the better chance of the three.
Tribuna, writing the same day, says City are very strongly keen and also names Liverpool and Arsenal. It says Dortmund see Albert as one of the biggest talents of his age group and have no wish to let him go.
Dortmund’s position on the 17-year-old
BILD says Albert has a long-term contract at Dortmund, which is why the club’s bosses are relaxed about the talk. But it also says he needs more playing time to take the next step. According to BILD, he played the full 90 minutes in Dortmund’s 5-0 first-round cup win at HEBC Hamburg and has had around 20 minutes in the other games under Niko Kovac, mostly as a bench option.
On 30 September Albert scored for the United States in a 4-2 win over Chile. BILD says that made him, at 17 years, four months and eight days, the youngest goalscorer in the history of the US national team, ahead of Christian Pulisic.
