Man City Women v Arsenal: City chase a fifth straight WSL win at the Etihad

by Alex Matthews

Manchester City Women host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday 4 October. Kick-off is at 16:30 (UK) in the Women’s Super League. City are chasing a fifth straight win, according to the club, while Arsenal arrive after a difficult start.

Manchester City Women at the top, Arsenal struggling for goals

Arsenal are seventh with five points from four games, with one win, two draws and one defeat, the club says. The Opta Analyst puts them seven points behind leaders Manchester City. It also says a defeat on Sunday would leave them 10 points off the top after five matchdays. Arsenal have never faced that at this stage of a WSL season.

Ahead of facing Manchester City Women, the Analyst says Arsenal have scored two goals from 78 shots in their four league games, and are averaging 1.25 points per game, their lowest rate in any WSL season. As a result, they are winless in three league matches. Their latest result was a 2-2 draw with Paris FC in the Champions League on Wednesday, although they had led by two goals.

Last season’s meeting at the Joie Stadium

Manchester City Women won the 2025/26 home meeting with Arsenal 3-2 at the Joie Stadium, the club notes, with Iman Beney scoring late on. Sunday is the first of two WSL games City host at the Etihad this season. In addition, the match comes three days after City’s 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in the Champions League.
